My commitment to my patient and your family:
I want to be your weight loss surgeon. More importantly I want to help you experience long term success. Your success is my success.
I want to be a different kind of weight loss surgeon. We want to be a different kind of Weight Loss Program. We want to emphasize success and safety, not just how many surgeries we can do. We know that if you have a great experience, you will tell your friends, relatives and aquaintences. It is a farily simple philosophy. Putting you first will assure our success.
Success in weight loss surgery takes more than a talented surgeon. I can assure you that I have a tenacious committment to quality in the operating room. With respectful humility, I am confident that I am as technically masterful in laparoscopic surgery as anyone in the Rocky Mountains stemming from over 20 years of experience. I strive to offer the best in safety, to shorten and ease recovery, and to offer the best in bariatric as well as general surgery.
Beyond being a technically superior surgeon, I think what makes me different is my commitment to you. If you pay me the respect of choosing me as your weight loss surgeon, I will commit myself literally to you for the rest of my career. Weight loss surgery is much more than surgery. I want to help you understand your weight loss surgery tool, so that you can maximize your weight loss not only in the short term, but for the rest of your life. You and I should not consider you a weight loss surgery success until you are five years and beyond. When you choose me as your weight loss surgeon, I want you to do yourself the favor of committing yourself to long term follow up. I am committing myself to you. I will be there for you.
To that end, I will make my personal cell phone number available to you. I am confident that a patient or a family in need would never abuse that opportunity. I do want you to call the Weight Loss Center first at 866 633 7619. They are available 8 to 5 Monday through Thursday and 8 to 3 on Friday. After hours, call 307 632-1114. I am available through that number when I am on call. When I am not, my partners and associates are educated in bariatric surgery as a requirement of our centers of excellence. The Weight Loss Center or my partners and associates will call me if they need to. Call me personally if you or your family needs to. I am sometimes out of town, getting more education or spending my time with my family. I will do my best to make sure you are taken care of. Email me any time, literally. If I don't reply personally I will make sure one of our experts at the Weight Loss Center takes care of you.
My personal cell phone number is 307 630-6383. Richard.Fermelia@crmcwy.org
With the Weight Loss Center, I personally have built a centers of excellence program for you. That is not to minimize the contribution of all the great people the Center, I couldn't have done it without them. They are the best. Our people are very experienced and very good at what they do. We are the most experienced program in Wyoming and I can say with confidence that there very few programs are comparable in the Rocky Mountains.
I want to be your weight loss surgeon. We want to be your weight loss program. Your success is our success.

Dr. Fermelia was an intern and resident in Dallas, Texas where he worked and learned in the several hospitals of the University of Texas Southwestern system, including the inner city hospital Parkland. The pride of his life is his kids: daughter Mercedes (Sadie) and son Lex.
In Cheyenne, Dr. Fermelia has developed a robust laparoscopic surgery practice, emphasizing complex abdominal procedures, which include (but are not limited to) minimally invasive approaches to heartburn (gastro-esophageal reflux), colon surgery, appendectomy, gallbladder surgery, splenectomy, groin hernia repair, and abdominal hernia repair. Dr. Fermelia has brought innovation and technology to Cheyenne in not only laparoscopic surgery, but also breast cancer surgery, and the trauma system. He has been the trauma director since 2001 at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and is involved at the state and national level in trauma systems and trauma care. Dr. Fermelia was instrumental in attaining Wyoming's first American College of Surgeons Level II Trauma Center verification at CRMC. Dr. Fermelia is the director of the CRMC transfer center.
